The plan for S/Y Tossan is to be able to navigate and sail with only one crew member. Therefore S/Y Tossan is equipped with autopilot and instruments to navigate single-handedly.
Navigation:
- AIS: True Heading CTRX Graphene+
- Autopilot: Raymarine ST2000+ connected to the steering, Raymarine RF Base + S100 remote control for remote steering.
- Clipper instruments for depth, wind, and speed; Clipper Echo sounder, Clipper Easy log, and Nasa Marine Instruments Wireless wind.
- Compass by instruments on starboard side
- Radar: Furuno DRS4W Wi-Fi
- iPad (not included) in waterproof case is used with navigation apps connected over Wi-Fi to radar, and navigation instruments. Apps such as TZ iBoat by Timezero is used for charts and navigation, including radar and AIS overlay. A separate plotter is not present but can be installed separately.
- GPS: Leveraging AIS’ GPS signal and iPad’s GPS for positioning. Additional portable Garmin GPS 38 as spare GPS.
